Cyril Mathew sentiments still dictates

3 November 2008 One Comment

Dear Mr L A Peiris

Your comments are not new to me or to the Tamil community as a whole. There is ample ongoing discussions and evidence in the public domain to explain the core issues affecting the Tamils. I can adduce from your comments that you are one of those, we Tamils have to live with, since the time of Cyril Mathew politics and nothing except statements promoting the majority hegemony will convince such persons.

I have gone to a greater length about my personal stand and in a democratic society you are entitled to have your own opinion about me. But unfortunately, you do not seem to know me fully and sense to make judgement to uphold your conditioned Sinhala hegemonic mindset.

Self-determination is defined as free choice of one’s own acts without external compulsion, and especially as the freedom of the people of a given territory to determine their own political status or independence from their current state. Unfortunately the latter is the complex concept the Tamils were forced into. The Sinhala leadership has not put forward their proposals politically to empower and accommodate the Tamils to circumvent their notion of independence.

Any devolution must be equal and proportionate and must be beneficial to the majority Sinhalese and the Muslims as well, as they too are abject citizens of a centralised (democratic dictatorship) system of governance in Sri Lanka.

I am frank in my view that the LTTE must be defeated politically. Hypothetically, what is next after the departure of the LTTE, if the government’s military efforts succeed? Knowing the way the government is controlling and using those potty Tamil paramilitary leaders in Colombo, what the Tamils will experience will be worse than the Pirabakaran’s present dictatorship. Only difference between Pirabakaran and them will be that the potty Tamil leaders will be His Masters servants and will savage the remnants of what is left by the LTTE.

Please revisit the history to see what the Sinhalese did to the Burgher community and also the plantation Tamils. The Burghers and plantations Tamils never espoused separation or even demanded minimum of empowerment. They were bulldozed in a systematic way, because they were aliens to the Sinhala race. Look at the tragedy faced by the Burgher community at present. A community that has been dispersed with painful break ups of their families and are now a lost community. They have become a forgotten society. This is what the Sinhala governments want to do with the Tamils.

Finally, you have expressed your extreme sentiments. As a Sinhalese in a controlling position, you have expressed this strongly. I and many other Tamils are expressing our deep fillings having experienced the 60 years of progressive suppression by the ruling class and your comments are evidence to this. We are the testimony for what was inflicted by the Sinhala state. Regretfully, persons like you are blurred and will carry on with your mission to further undermine the very same people you are stampeding.

Yours sincerely
R Jayadevan

1. Lanka Peiris:

Jayadevan, any empowerment or devolution given to the Tamil minority in the
Northern or Eastern Provinces should be equal to the empowerment and
devolution in other provinces. Just because the minorities make demands
citing discrimination the GoSL cannot give into their whims especially pye
in the sky dreams of the megalomaniac Prabhakaran. You were one of the main
supporters of these dreams which turned sour when he grabbed all your
wealth and imprisoned you and have to be rescued by the British Government.
ISGA proposals are not acceptable to the majority. It is up to the Tamil
minority community to come up with reasonable proposals, not blank
statements like ‘ aspirations’, ’self- determination’ etc. The aspirations
of the Tamil minority must not and cannot subjugate the aspirations of the
majority. Self- determination in Sri lanka will never be acceptable to the
majority in this unitary nation.

The LTTE terrorists must lay down their arms or face extinction. When even
international experts said the East will not be cleared it was done and
General Sarath Fonseka and his forces will clear will clear the North
under the guidance of the President Rajapakse. It will take time due to the
fortifications built by LTTE terrorists with the funds you and your Tamil
brothers gifted to these terrorists.

2. Lanka Peiris
Jayadevan, LTTE is not the perverted politics of Mother Sri Lanka, it is
the illegtimate child of perverted poltics of Mother India and its prime
minister Indira Ghandhi. Please spell out the empowerment Tamils need to
become honourable citizens of Sri Lanka. G G Ponnambalam demanded 50;50 representation in the parliament for the minorities in the 1940’s but
which sensible government in the world would have accepted such a
ridiculous demand. The government violently resisted the democratic
agitations of the TULF and introduced the standardisation scheme in the
early 1970’s not to curtail the entry of Tamil students to the
universities, but to curtail the unpropotional entry of Tamil students to
the universities by corrupt, illegal underhand methods used by the majority
Tamil Professors, Examiners and Administrators in the Eeducation department of Sri lanka. They were not agitated youths but persons who considered illegal privileges as rights.

You state other Tamil militant groups are not angels. It is like the
kettle calling the pot black when you say thaty they too played their due
role to jockey ride on the innocent Tamil people. You did the same funding
and supporting the LTTE terrorists.

You say that defeating the LTTE is not a difficult a task. It is the
responsibility of the collective Tamil community to say good bye to the
LTTE. So why have they not done it for the past 20/30 years. You say it is a tragedy that Douglas Devananda, Karuna and other Tamil leaders have become the slaves of the government and are unable to resist
its effort to weaken the Tamils. They are in sri lanka and they witness
daily that 52% of the Tamil population in Sri lanka live among the Sinhala
and other communities in Colombo and the south. These Tamil leaders know
that they can live safely, peacefully among the Sinhala people.
The only role India has to play is to mind their own business as they have
more ethnic conflicts on their own soil. They will not want another
‘Kashmir’ in their Southern hemisphere trying to subjugate the Sinhala in
their own backyard.

The tamil community must learn to integrate and live like they do in all
foreign lands in the world.
